Musical Artist - The Left Banke

The Left Banke was an American "baroque rock" band best known for the hit Walk Away Renee. Founded in 1965 by Michael Brown, George Cameron, Tom Finn, Steve Martin, and Warren David-Schierhorst, the band produced two singles - Walk Away Renee and Pretty Ballerina - and one album before creative differences between Brown and the rest of the band caused the group to fall apart.

When their singles belatedly reached the top forty, Brown tried to capitalize on this by forming a "New Left Banke" that included, among others, future Laverne and Shirley and Saturday Night Live cast member Michael McKean (who was also a member of the fictional bands Spinal Tap and the Folksmen). This led to litigation from some of the other original band members, and the "New Left Banke" never did any actual touring and was dissolved in relatively short order.

Over the decades following the release of their two hits, the Left Banke reunited, recorded together, toured together, and broke up several times. Former guitarist Jeff Winfield died in 2009, and Michael Brown died in 2015, which probably means that the band is basically finished, although there is a small chance that the remaining members might reform at some point.

The band has an official website named The Left Banke. There is also a fan site dedicated to the band called The Left Bank Fan Site, and a Facebook fan page named The Official Left Banke Fan Page.
