2007 WSFA Small Press Award Nominees

Location: CapClave in Rockville, Maryland.

Comments: Some time in 2006 or 2007, the members of the Washington Science Fiction Association sat down and decided that what the speculative fiction genre needed was an award to honor short fiction published by small presses. A call for submissions went out, eight stories were chosen for the short list, the members of WSFA voted, and by the time the 2007 Capclave rolled around, a winner had been chosen.

In this inaugural year of the WSFA Small Press Award the honor immediately gained a fair measure of credibility when Peter S. Beagle took home the prize. Even though he was unable to attend the ceremony, Beagle offered a beautiful acceptance speech in which he extolled the virtues of the printed word in general, and small presses specifically.
