Author - Watt-Evans, Lawrence

Me and Watt-Evans at CapClave 2011
Birth: July 26, 1954.

Death: Still alive and writing more than any human should be able to.

Comments: Lawrence Watt-Evans is an American science fiction and fantasy author who has also written under the name Nathan Archer. His actual name is Lawrence Watt Evans, but he began using his middle name to avoid being confused with another author named Lawrence Evans, and added the hyphen because Lester del Rey thought it would be more distinctive.

He has published a couple dozen novels and more than a hundred pieces of short fiction. In addition to his fiction, Watt-Evans was one of the co-creators and publishers of the magazine Deathrealm and the managing editor of the webzine Helix SF. Watt-Evans served as the president of the Horror Writer's Association and the Treasurer of SFWA. His short story Why I Left Harry's All-Night Hamburgers won a Hugo Award and was nominated for both the Nebula and Locus Awards.

When Terry Pratchett made a surprise appearance at CapClave in 2011 and the entire convention came to a halt to hear him speak, I stood in the back of the room, and happened to be standing next to Watt-Evans and got to see first-hand the awe that Sir Terry produced in other authors. Seeing an author like Watt-Evans standing and watching Pratchett, almost entranced by his experience, was almost as great a moment as being there to see Pratchett myself.

Watt-Evans has a website named The Misenchanted Page and another dedicated to his Ethshar fantasy setting titled The World of Ethshar. He can also be found on Twitter and Facebook.
