Musical Artist - Blondie

Blondie is an American band that mixed punk, new wave, disco, reggae, rap, and rock elements into a bizarre mélange that resulted in significant success for the group in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Originally founded in 1974 by Deborah Harry and Chris Stein, the band soon added Clem Burke, Fred Smith, and Jimmy Destri. Smith and O'Conner left in relatively short order and were replaced by Gary Valentine, Frank Infante, and Nigel Harrison, although Valentine was only with the group for a short period of time. This sort of chaos seems fairly apropos for Blondie, as the band was formed and existed in the swirling chaos of the late-1970s punk and new wave scene.

Blondie released six albums before they broke up in 1982, producing numerous hit singles including Call Me, Heart of Glass, The Tide Is High, Rapture, and Atomic. In 1997, after a fifteen year hiatus, the band reformed and produced another hit record with Maria. They had two albums - Parallel Lines and Eat to the Beat - reach the number one position on the U.K. album charts, and six number one singles. The band was nominated for two Grammy Awards, and had Heart of Glass inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. They were also inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006.
