Musical Artist - Tyler, Bonnie

Bonnie Tyler is a Welsh singer best known for her hits Its a Heartbreak and Total Eclipse of the Heart. Born Gaynor Hopkins, Taylor changed her name when she started performing to avoid confusion with Welsh singer Mary Hopkins, first selecting the name Sherene Davis, and then settling upon Bonnie Tyler in 1975. Her debut album The World Starts Tonight was released in 1976 and produced two modest hits - Lost in France and More Than a Lover.

Bonnie's follow-up album was Natural Force, which produced her first truly big hit with It's a Heartache, but the other singles off of the album received an indifferent response. Tyler had throat surgery during the recording of this album which helped enhance her the distinctive raspy singing voice that became her signature. Tyler released two more albums over the next three years, neither of which had any significant impact on the charts.

In 1983, Tyler began working with Meatloaf's long-time collaborator Jim Steinman, a combination that produced the album Faster Than the Speed of Night and the massive hit single Total Eclipse of the Heart. The single became Tyler's biggest hit, aided in part by a bizarrely surreal music video. Tyler also worked with Steinman on her sixth album Secret Dreams and Forbidden Fire, which contained the hit single Holding Out for a Hero, which appeared on the Footloose soundtrack. A cover version of the song performed by E.G. Daily was used as the opening theme song for the television series Cover Up.

In the years since Secret Dreams and Forbidden Fire, Tyler has recorded ten more studio albums, and has some success in Europe, but has never been able to duplicate the successes she had working with Steinman. Over the course of her career, Tyler received three Brit Award nominations and three Grammy award nominations.

Tyler has a website named Bonnie Tyler. She can also be found on Facebook and has a page on the Internet Movie Database.
