Musical Artist - Zevon, Warren

Warren Zevon was an American songwriter and musician best known for his hit Werewolves of London. Born in Chicago, Zevon moved to Los Angeles as a teenager and began a relatively successful career providing songs for other artists, writing songs such as Like the Seasons for the Turtles, and She Quit Me for the soundtrack of Midnight Cowboy.

Zevon made friends and collaborated with a veritable who's wo of 1970s folk rock music, working with artists such as Jackson Browne, Stevie Nicks, Lindsey Buckingham, Bonnie Raitt, and Linda Ronstadt. In particular, Ronstadt went on to cover many of Zevon's songs, most notably Poor Poor Pitiful Me. In addition to writing songs made into hits by other artists, Zevon turned many of his compositions into hits himself including the aforementioned Werewolves of London, as well as Lawyers, Guns, and Money and Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner.

Zevon was David Letterman's favorite musical artist, appearing on his Late Show a couple of dozen times. When Zevon was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer, Letterman had him on the show as the only guest for a full hour, providing him with an emotional send-off. Zevon died on September 7, 2003 shortly after the release of his final album The Wind. The album received five Grammy nominations, winning two of the awards.

There is a website dedicated to Zevon's work named Warren Zevon.
