Random Thought - Stylish Blogger Award

Some love is being passed around, and laceyinthesky of Lacey in the Sky with Books decided to pass some to me by nominating me for the Stylish Blogger Award. Everyone should go check out her very cool blog when they get the chance.

To accept this award I have to follow some rules:
  1. Thank the person who gave the award. So thanks again to Lacey in the Sky with Books!
  2. Share seven things about myself.
  3. Pass the award on to fifteen bloggers I discovered and like.
  4. Contact these bloggers and let them know they've won.
Here are the seven things about myself:
  1. When I was younger, I lived in Africa for several years - specifically Tanzania, Zaire (back when it was called Zaire), Nigeria, and technically Togo, although not really, because when I was "living" in Togo, I was really going to school in the United States (see #2) while the rest of my family actually lived in Togo.
  2. I went to high school at Woodberry Forest School, an all-male private boarding school.
  3. I am often bizarrely absent-minded. I once took a course in college twice because the second time I forgot I had already taken it. I did not realize this until I got my transcript after the semester was over. (It was a Shakespeare survey course for those who care to know).
  4. Related to #3, I frequently pick up an interesting looking book, start reading it, and only about a hundred pages in realize that I have read the book before. The most recent book that I did this with was Robert a. Heinlein's Citizen of the Galaxy. One reason for writing this blog is to help me keep track of what I've read.
  5. I am an obsessive completist. I will slog through the worst crap imaginable in order to finish a book if I have started it. I will grind through every volume of a lousy series just to finish it off. Sometimes this pays off - I went back and restarted Samuel R. Delany's Stars in My Pocket, Like Grains of Sand three or four times before I was finally able to wrap my head around it and get to the genius. Frequently it does not and the only result of my pig-headedness is that I've just read a really crappy book or series - just look through some of the reviews I have posted to see the results.
  6. At one point my brother and I had almost the entire script of the movie Flash Gordon memorized. Yes, the one with acting giants Sam J. Jones and Melody Anderson as the leads backed up by unknown bit players like Topol, Brian Blessed, Timothy Dalton, Ornella Muti, Peter Wyngarde, and Brian Blessed. When you are living in Zaire and you only have one videotaped movie for a couple months, you end up watching it a lot. Fun trivia: The movie also features Richard O'Brien, creator The Rocky Horror Picture Show (he also played Riff Raff in Rocky Horror).
  7. I own more than eight thousand books.
And here are the fifteen (well, okay, fourteen) bloggers I hand the award off to:
  1. My Bookish Ways
  2. Here's Me Using the Word Blog in a Sentence
  3. Inspired by Real Life
  4. Manon Eileen
  5. I Am a Reader, Not a Writer
  6. A Myriad of Books
  7. My Book Addiction
  8. S. Krishna's Books
  9. Bibrary Bookslut
  10. Moonlight Gleam's Bookshelf
  11. Still Writing...
  12. Lazy Girl Reads
  13. Dreaming by Day
  14. Read Between the Lines. . .

  3. Of course I'm interested in receiving an award! HAHAH!!

Thanks so much! Your 7 things are pretty epic. I think I might be an obsessive completest at times myself, that explains a lot haha. And I can't believe you proposed on the first date and then a month later! That's so romantic! Congrats to you guys on 18 years!!

    Thanks again, you rule!

  4. Congrats on the award, you stylish blogger, you! :) I really enjoyed reading your seven things, and I completely feel your pain. I, too, am an obsessive completist. It's just a thing. I feel compelled to finish every book I start. This compulsion has made me read terrible, terrible things (here's looking at you, Eragon).

  5. Sally Sappire and Moonlight Gleam: I seem to frequently be a day late and a dollar short. Your blogs deserve to be recognized multiple times anyway.

  6. Lazy Girl and Lilly Bear: Obsessive completionism should be a recognized disorder (and I too suffered through all of Eragon, plus I have Eldest and Brisingr on tap someday). As a silver lining, I find those types of books make for great reviewing material - see the Donita K. Paul books I reviwed as examples.

  12. Wow, thanks so much for the award! I will definitely participate and pass it on, but I will have to post it later in the week or early next week.

I really enjoyed reading your answers. I think it's awesome that you will finish a book or a series even if you're not loving it. As for being absent-minded, I find that Goodreads is a great way to keep track of the books you've read and want to read!

    Thanks again for the award!

  13. Congrats on the award! I would like to email you about something but cannot find an email address anywhere on your blog. It's probably starting me in the face and I just don't see it! Could you please email me?
