I will shock absolutely no one by saying SCIENCE FICTION! I also love fantasy fiction, but science fiction will always be my first love. But I have been reading science fiction for so long I don't actually remember what book it was that I read that made it my favorite, but it was almost certainly a book written by Andre Norton. It might have been Exiles of the Stars, or maybe Judgment on Janus or Moon of 3 Rings. Possibly Star Guard or Quest Crosstime. I can't remember which specific book did it for me, but my love of science fiction, my love of reading in general, and the eventual existence of this blog, is pretty much Andre Norton's fault.

I have yet to read an Andre Norton book but I see them everywhere and I really love science fiction. So that means his books need to be on tbr list! My favorite science fiction book is Ender's Game. I hope you have a wonderful weekend! ;)

@Loren: A small point - Andre Norton was a woman. She began her writing career in an era in which a lot of publishers thought that no one would buy science fiction books written by women, so female authors either wrote under pseudonyms - like Alice Sheldon, who wrote as James Tiptree, Jr. - or under name variations that were intended to disguise their gender - like C.J. Cherryh and Andre Norton.

I do love science fiction, even though it's not my main genre. I'll have to check out those Norton books. I've read other ones of her's and enjoyed them.

@Parajunkee: Norton wrote at least a couple books set in a post-apocalyptic setting, which would probably fit well with your dystopian-genre theme right now. If you're interested, I'd probably start with No Night Without Stars.

ReplyDelete@Marla: I recommend Andre Norton's books for anyone interested in science fiction. Her work wasn't classified as such, but likely would now be called "young adult" fiction, but her books are more mature than that label would imply.
ReplyDelete@Lisa: I have read a ton of Norton's books, but she was so prolific as an author, I keep finding more books by her that I haven't read yet. I suppose this is a good problem to have when it comes to a favored author.
