2012 Prometheus Award Nominees

Location: Chicon 7 in Chicago, Illinois.

Comments: The 2012 slate of nominees for the Prometheus Award Hall of Fame was almost exactly the same as the slate for the 2011 Hall of Fame, the only change being that George Orwell's Animal Farm, the 2011 inductee, was removed from the ballot. This seems to be something of a pattern for the Prometheus Awards - come up with a slate of Hall of Fame nominees, put them on the ballot year after year until most of them have gained entry, then when the field has been depleted, cast about looking for more works to put on the ballot for the next several years. The harsh reality is that it seems there is a fair amount of good fiction with mild libertarian themes, and a fair amount of weak fiction with a strong libertarian message, but very little good fiction with a strong libertarian message, and the repetitiveness of the Hall of Fame nominations is an indicator of this fact.
