Follow Friday - The Mystery of Element 117 Is a Science Fiction Story by Milton Smith

It's Friday again, and this means it's time for Follow Friday. There has been a slight change to the format, as now there are two Follow Friday hosts blogs and two Follow Friday Features Bloggers each week. To join the fun and make now book blogger friends, just follow these simple rules:
  1. Follow both of the Follow My Book Blog Friday Hosts (Parajunkee and Alison Can Read) and any one else you want to follow on the list.
  2. Follow the two Featured Bloggers of the week - ParaDays and Once Upon a Coffin.
  3. Put your Blog name and URL in the Linky thing.
  4. Grab the button up there and place it in a post, this post is for people to find a place to say hi in your comments.
  5. Follow, follow, follow as many as you can, as many as you want, or just follow a few. The whole point is to make new friends and find new blogs. Also, don't just follow, comment and say hi. Another blogger might not know you are a new follower if you don't say "Hi".
  6. If someone comments and says they are following you, be a dear and follow back. Spread the love . . . and the followers.
  7. If you want to show the link list, just follow the link below the entries and copy and paste it within your post!
  8. If you're new to the Follow Friday Hop, comment and let me know, so I can stop by and check out your blog!
And now for the Follow Friday Question: What do you do with your books after you’re done reading them?

After I have read them, my books first go into a pile by my computer to wait until they get reviewed. I currently have a small stack of books by my left arm waiting to be reviewed, notably Jessica O'Gorek's Gemini Rising: Ethereal Fury and Larry Elmore's Snarfquest.

Once a book has been read and reviewed, it goes onto my book shelves. I keep books that I like because I like them, and may want to reread them or use them as a reference in the future. I keep books that I didn't like in order to sequester them away from the world so that they won't inflict themselves upon other readers. I shelve most of my books in alphabetical order by author name, separating the mass market paperbacks from the trade paperbacks and hardbacks. I keep a few categories of books separate - my law books, my Time-Life series books, my language dictionaries, and my game books all have their own sections for easy access.

But the important point for answering the question posed is that after I read a book, it stays with me, on my shelves.

  1. Great system - super organised, which is just what I love!!

I can't stack books by my computer though. I think if I did that I'd be unable to move :P my TBR pile is just too big, so I end up putting the books on my shelf where they sit and wait until I can get round to them!

    1. @Little Birdie Books: The description I gave is just about what happens to books after I read them. There is a whole other process that I use to organize and store books before I read them. All my books are put into an Excel spreadhseet and cataloged on LibraryThing.

The books that I have gotten as review copies go onto a particular shelf where they wait until I read them - they get read first before other things. My other unread books are, for the most part, stored in boxes right now because I don't have space to shelve them. I hope to remedy that in the reasonably near future, but I will need to move before I have enough space for that.

  2. Hopping through. I got rid of most of my law books except for a few that I thought might be helpful - but I should probably get rid of those too.

    1. @Alison Can Read: I held on to mine for no particular reason. A few I held on to because they were pretty good, mostly the books I got for courses like Readings in Legal Thought and Jurisprudence, but most of them just because I had no real cause to get rid of them.
