Book Blogger Hop February 6th - February 12th: Gaius Valerius Flaccus Died in 90 A.D.

Book Blogger Hop

Jen at Crazy for Books restarted her weekly Book Blogger Hop to help book bloggers connect with one another, but then couldn't continue, so she handed the hosting responsibilities off to Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer. The only requirements to participate in the Hop are to write and link a post answering the weekly question and then visit other blogs that are also participating to see if you like their blog and would like to follow them.

This week Billy asks: Is there anything that turns you off when you are reading a blog post? For example: Two posts in one post such as answers to two memes.

There are a couple of kinds of posts of which I am not a particularly big fan. I don't really like holiday posts, such as special Christmas, Thanksgiving, or even Halloween posts. Usually when I poke around on the internet on or near a holiday, I'm looking to get away from the pervasive nature of the holidays, and, to be perfectly honest, these sorts of posts feel like little more than placeholders to me. When someone puts up a post that says little more than "Merry Christmas!", it feels like they simply didn't put much effort into the post.

The other kind of posts I'm not particularly fond of are things like cover reveals, 'Waiting on Wednesday" posts and other kinds of posts that are little more than "a book is coming out soon, and we should be very excited about it". These posts always seem to me to be nothing more than essentially regurgitating press release material for the publisher. When I read a blog, I'm not really interested in what kind of press the book publisher wants for their book. I am interested in what a blogger has to say about books, about authors, and about the industry. If all you are doing as a book blogger is repeating press releases, then I don't know if I can really call what you are doing either "book blogging" or interesting.

I guess one could sum up the kind of posts I don't like as being those in which it seems that the blogger in question more or less mailed in their post.

    1. @Nyze Gremio-Velasco: I don't mind a Waiting on Wednesday post too much if it includes content original to the blogger. It seems that all too often book blogs end up devolving into little more than mouthpieces for book publishers, and that seems like such a poor use of the platform of a book blog to me.
