Follow Friday - Forty-Four Was Reggie Jackson's Number, Stir the Drink

It's Friday again, and this means it's time for Follow Friday. There has been a slight change to the format, as now there are two Follow Friday hosts blogs and two Follow Friday Features Bloggers each week. To join the fun and make now book blogger friends, just follow these simple rules:
  1. Follow both of the Follow My Book Blog Friday Hosts (Parajunkee and Alison Can Read) and any one else you want to follow on the list.
  2. Follow the two Featured Bloggers of the week - Pretty in Fiction and Butterfly-o-meter.
  3. Put your Blog name and URL in the Linky thing.
  4. Grab the button up there and place it in a post, this post is for people to find a place to say hi in your comments.
  5. Follow, follow, follow as many as you can, as many as you want, or just follow a few. The whole point is to make new friends and find new blogs. Also, don't just follow, comment and say hi. Another blogger might not know you are a new follower if you don't say "Hi".
  6. If someone comments and says they are following you, be a dear and follow back. Spread the love . . . and the followers.
  7. If you want to show the link list, just follow the link below the entries and copy and paste it within your post!
  8. If you're new to the Follow Friday Hop, comment and let me know, so I can stop by and check out your blog!
And now for the Follow Friday Question: What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done to get your hands on any particular book?

Hmm, this is a tough one for me, since I haven't ever really done anything crazy to get a book. I did pre-order a copy of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and then go to pick it up at midnight. But I only did that because I was leaving to go on vacation the next day and wouldn't be able to pick up the book until a week later if I didn't.

I suppose one could say that I've done somewhat crazy things for books (as opposed to a single book), mostly by mapping out all the library book sales in my area and spending hours hunting through stacks of used books for the ones I want. And maintaining an Excel spreadsheet a couple hundred pages long to help me do this. But that doesn't seem crazy to me, just organized.

  1. Haha that's SUPER organized. I don't think I'd have the patience to make an excel spreadsheet...though I did go to five bookstores in one day with my friends! It was awesome :) I hope you have a great Friday!

    Here's my FF!

  2. I love used book sales! I've never really attacked them with any plan though, I just go and grab ones with covers that I like.

  8. @Jessica: The Excel file didn't get made all at once. I can't remember when I started it, but it was at least five years ago. It is up to five sheets, with 10,915 entries on the main sheet. Yeah, I'm a little obsessive.

  9. @Jac: If you love book sales, I suggest checking out Book Sale Finder. You can even sign up to have them e-mail a weekly list of all book sales in your area.

  10. @Livia: The Deathly Hallows book is the only one that I have ever done a "midnight party" for, and it was at a small local bookstore, so I didn't even have to wait very long. I'm obsessive, but apparently pretty boring.

  11. @Tara Elizabeth: If I ever sit down and figure out how to get the Google calendar to do what I want it to do I'll probably do the same. We may be crazy, but I wouldn't have it any other way.

  12. @Jesse: The hard part about getting organized enough to have spreadsheets and so on is that it doesn't happen overnight. My spreadsheet(s) are detailed and help me keep track of all kinds of things about my books, but it took several years and a lot of work to get them like this. When I started my spreadsheet I only had a hundred entries on it and went from there.

  13. @Books and Beyond: It helps to have a purpose for your organization more than just "my books" (although that can work). For example, when I started mine, I wanted to get hold of all the books that had won or been nominated for the major science fiction and fantasy oriented awards, so that formed the backbone of my spreadsheet.

  14. @Kristen: Organized is good. But I wish I was more organized. Maybe someday.

  15. @JennRenee: I have a spreadsheet for book titles, another for short stories, and another for book awards. I also catalog all my books on LibraryThing.

  16. I also do crazy things for Harry Potter. Lol, I think HP brings out the crazy reader in all of us. :) Hope you're having an awesome weekend Aaron!

  17. @Nausicaa: The funny thing is that I was very late to the Harry Potter party - I didn't start reading them until my brother sent me the first four books as a gift and I didn't actually read them for some time after that.

On the other hand, going to get The Deathly Hallows at midnight is the only time I've done anything like that to get a single book.
