2014 WSFA Small Press Award Nominees

Location: CapClave in Gaithersburg, Maryland.

Comments: In 2014, the WSFA Small Press Award was won by Alex Shvartsman for his story Explaining Cthulhu to Grandma, published in Orson Scott Card's Intergalactic Medicine Show. This makes the second win for stories published in that market, as it has also published 2009 winner The Absence of Stars: Part 1 by Greg Siewert. This makes Orson Scott Card's Intergalactic Medicine Show the second publisher to produce two nominees, with Twelfth Planet Press having previously accomplished this feat by publishing Tansy Rayner Roberts' two winning stories.

One has to feel a little bit sorry for Clarkesworld at this point. The publication has had a nominee on the shortlist in several of the years of the existence of the SFWA Small Press Award, all of which were excellent stories, and yet their nominees always seem to end up as the bridesmaid, and never the bride.
