Follow Friday - A Baker's Dozen

It's Friday again, which means it's time for Follow Friday. To join the fun and make now book blogger friends, just follow these simple rules:
  1. Follow the Follow My Book Blog Friday Host (Parajunkee) and any one else you want to follow on the list.
  2. Follow the Featured Blogger of the week - My Keeper Shelf.
  3. Put your Blog name and URL in the Linky thing.
  4. Grab the button up there and place it in a post, this post is for people to find a place to say hi in your comments.
  5. Follow, follow, follow as many as you can, as many as you want, or just follow a few. The whole point is to make new friends and find new blogs. Also, don't just follow, comment and say hi. Another blogger might not know you are a new follower if you don't say "Hi".
  6. If someone comments and says they are following you, be a dear and follow back. Spread the love . . . and the followers.
  7. If you want to show the link list, just follow the link below the entries and copy and paste it within your post!
  8. If you're new to the Follow Friday Hop, comment and let me know, so I can stop by and check out your blog!
And now for the Follow Friday Question: Do you judge a book by it's cover?

While a good book cover can enhance a book, I usually don't pay much attention to the cover. Perhaps this is a consequence of reading a lot of science fiction and fantasy, because there are lots of books in those genres that have simply godawful covers and if one were to reject books (or even try to evaluate them) based upon their covers, well, you'd miss out on a lot of books.

  5. Hi! New follower here. Nice to meet you!

For me, it is the cover and the title that tempt me to read the blurb. If the blurb reads great, I'll grab the book. I remember the first time I saw Harry Potter's book covers, I was like, O_o...not sure if I liked them. Love the inside but the covers weren't really to my taste.
    Happy Follow Friday!!!

  6. I'm a new follower hopping through!

It's so true- science fic usually have horrible covers, but it doesn't stop me if I read the synopsis and like the idea of the book :)

  7. Love reading goal! Personally, I'm a fan of Ray Bradbury's short stories, and as a kid loved to read Asimov's monthly sci fi/fantasy mag.

Yes, I often judge books by their covers, and I'm so glad when my old favorites get much-needed makeovers.

I'm a new follower, and invite you to check out my sites and follow me as well.

  11. Ha ha! You're so right! Most fantasy and science fiction books, at least in the adult genre, have horrible covers.

  13. New follower! I always judge a book by it's cover! I can't help it; I'm superficial like that, haha :) But a book is a book no matter what! Have a happy weekend!

  14. @Christy: I find that a pretty book cover can turn me off from a book sometimes. I'll be thinking "if they spent all the money on the cover, they must have scrimped on the inside". Probably irrational, but that's just my inner cynic.

  15. @Alison: There are so many ridiculously bad SF/F covers that it sometimes seems weird to find one that isn't awful!

  16. @Mad Scientist: I think our book buying styles might be completely opposite! But so long as we end up with books we like it must be working.

  17. @sch 94: I certainly will! Thank you for stopping by.

  18. @Tyraa: Then you'll get all the pretty books, and I'll be stuck with the ugly ones!

  20. @Judith Leger: Of all the covers in my library, the Harry Potter ones are among my favorites!

  21. @Rida: They certainly are! I sense a meme coming on - featured awful science fiction book covers!

  22. @Keith Schoch: I love Asimov's, which I regularly read and review on this blog. I also read and review Analog, which is very similar (owned by the same publisher actually).

  23. @Julia Rachel Barrett: I do it by planning - I figure out what books I'm interested in before I go looking for books, and then I try to stick to my plan. It doesn't always work, but it helps.

  24. @Jenni Elyse: In the youth market too!

  25. @Aimee: Like I said, I think I feel a meme idea developing!

  27. Hi there. Late hopper and new follower saying hi. :)

I do judge books by cover while browsing, since that's what makes me want to know more. Otherwise it's the storyline that makes the final decision!

My FF can be found here!

  29. @Crystal: It's okay, someone has to love pretty covers, or they wouldn't make them. You just get more enjoyment out of your books that I do, since I just get the text, and you get the text and the cover to appreciate.

  30. @bex: Hello! Hope you enjoy my blog. I'm all about stories myself, so I think you'll like the books I review.
