Comments: In 2012 the Hugo Award voters decided to just give in to the inevitable, handing out an award to Doctor Who and Neil Gaiman at the same time by bestowing the Best Short Form Award to the Gaiman penned episode The Doctor's Wife. To save time, the World Science Fiction committee should just add two more awards. One for "Best Work by Neil Gaiman", and another for "Best Doctor Who Episode".
2012 also saw the introduction of a new category, with an award bestowed for Best Fancast, although it was a one-time award. In the other relatively new category, Best Graphic Novel, the award went to someone other than Phil and Kaja Foglio for the first time in the award's history, with Digger by Ursula Vernon taking home the prize. But Digger got a big assist in its quest for victory when Phil and Kaja announced that they would not accept a nomination for their latest installment in the Girl Genius series so that someone else could win the award. The impetus behind the Foglio's decision was to demonstrate that the Best Graphic Novel category was a viable one and not just the "Phil and Kaja Show". But if the only way to get someone else to win is to have the Foglio's decline to participate, is it really a viable category?
