Takeo Ishii is a Japanese singer and yodeler who has made a name for himself in the German folk music scene. Ishii became interested in yodeling when he heard it on the radio as a youth, and taught himself how to sing using this technique, and also learned to play the zither and the hammered dulcimer. He originally came to Germany when he was a student to study for six months and began singing in beer halls while he was there. Ishii idolized Fritzi Lang, generally regarded as the best Alpine yodeler in the world, and when they met, Lang was impressed enough that he took Ishii under his wing and launched the Japanese singer's career.
