Death: February 1, 1976.
Comments: Edgar Pangborn was an American author most known for his science fiction, but was also an accomplished artist and musician. Pangborn attended Harvard, starting there at the age of fifteen, but left without completing his studies. He also attended the New England Conservatory of Music, but left there without a degree as well. Pangborn took up writing as his career when he was twenty-one and wrote mysteries for pulp magazines under pseudonyms for the next twenty years.
After serving in the U.S. Army Medical Corps during World War II, Pangborn turned to writing science fiction, now writing under his own name. He produced two well-regarded novels - International Fantasy Award winner A Mirror for Observers, and Hugo-nominated Davy - as well as numerous works of short fiction and other novels. Pangborn was close friends with fellow science fiction author Peter S. Beagle, and his estate was eventually bequeathed to Beagle after Pangborn died.
