Death: Still alive and teaching about fire management.

Comments: Stephen J. Pyne is an environmental historian with a dedicated expertise in the history of fire prevention and firefighting. After graduating with a B.A. from Stanford University and an M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Texas he spent fifteen seasons, from 1967 to 1982, as a wilderness firefighter, giving him direct experience with the subject matter of his academic interest.

Pyne is considered one of the foremost experts on the history of fire management. Pyne is currently a professor of Human Dimensions in Biology at the School of Life Sciences at Arizona State University.
