Death: 1980.
Comments: Tom Godwin was a science fiction writer mostly active in the 1950s best known for his short story The Cold Equations. As common among writers of his generation, he wrote many works of short fiction but only produced three novels. Like most authors who specialized in work for the genre magazines of the middle part of the twentieth century, Godwin has faded into obscurity, so much so that despite writing one of the most famous science fiction short stories of all time, it is seemingly impossible to locate a picture of the author or any substantial biographical information about him.
