Follow Friday - In 98 A.D. Tacitus Finished Writing the Germania

It's Friday again, and this means it's time for Follow Friday. There has been a slight change to the format, as now there are two Follow Friday hosts blogs and two Follow Friday Features Bloggers each week. To join the fun and make now book blogger friends, just follow these simple rules:
  1. Follow both of the Follow My Book Blog Friday Hosts (Parajunkee and Alison Can Read) and any one else you want to follow on the list.
  2. Follow the two Featured Bloggers of the week - Kathryn's Inbox and Megz Madd Readz.
  3. Put your Blog name and URL in the Linky thing.
  4. Grab the button up there and place it in a post, this post is for people to find a place to say hi in your comments.
  5. Follow, follow, follow as many as you can, as many as you want, or just follow a few. The whole point is to make new friends and find new blogs. Also, don't just follow, comment and say hi. Another blogger might not know you are a new follower if you don't say "Hi".
  6. If someone comments and says they are following you, be a dear and follow back. Spread the love . . . and the followers.
  7. If you want to show the link list, just follow the link below the entries and copy and paste it within your post!
  8. If you're new to the Follow Friday Hop, comment and let me know, so I can stop by and check out your blog!
And now for the Follow Friday Question: Confess your blogger sins! Is there anything as a newbie blogger that you’ve done, that as you gained more experience you were like - oops?

I guess the the primary mistake I made was not starting using Wordpress instead of Blogger, but that seems to be a reasonably common regret among bloggers.

That aside, there are two things that I would do differently if I could go back. The first would be to start seriously blogging sooner. I started this blog in 2008, but I didn't really have a focus and posts were few, far between, and kind of meandered. I didn't actually get serious about consistently blogging  until 2010. If I could go back, I would have started focusing my efforts into posting science fiction and fantasy reviews sooner.

The second thing I wish I had done differently is establishing a consistent format for blog posts from the start. When I started seriously blogging I formatted some of my posts in ways that were simply not consistent with how I format them now. So I am slowly going back and reformatting older posts, especially the ones I use as pseudo-fixed pages. But this takes time, and it means that I am playing a lot of catch up ball rather than working on new material.

  1. @Julia Rachel Barrett: I would do so as well if I didn't consciously try to avoid it. This blog would be a stream of consciousness nightmare otherwise.

  2. I've made those same mistakes, and I'm still reformatting some of my older posts. I also wish I would have thought to start blogging sooner - I see book review bloggers who are still in high school with most impressive feats! I'm still a newbie but I'm learning along the way :) Also I really like your blog and I look forward to reading your reviews and finding new reading material!

    Happy Friday!!

  3. I don't see why wordpress is that much better. Personally I don't like it. But to each his own :)

  4. @Sierra Poirier: Every day I work through a couple more older posts and fix them up, that way the work doesn't become overwhelming. It does, however, mean that I spend a lot of time working on this blog on things that are rarely seen by anyone but me.

  5. @Nyx: Wordpress is more flexible, but more complicated. At this point, I'd make that trade off.
