Comments: Chip Zdarsky is a Canadian comic book artist and author. Zdarsky is a pen name, the artist's birth name is Steve Murray, and he worked under that name for several years for the National Post as an illustrator and writer. He has also used the pseudonym Todd Diamond on occasion. Murray uses the Zdarsky pen name for his work in comics, including his Eisner-winning series Sex Criminals which he co-created with Matt Fraction.

Zdarsky has a website named Chip Zdarsky and a blog named Chip Zdarsky's Secret Online Journal. He can also be found on Twitter, Tumblr, and Facebook.

Comments: Frank Wu is an American artist, author, and bacterial geneticist. Wu holds a Ph.D. in bacterial genetics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and works in the field of patent law. A prolific fan artist, Wu has won four Hugo Award as Best Fan Artist, and been nominated for the award three other times. In addition to his Hugo Awards, Wu won the Illustrators of the Future contest. Wu has effectively retired himself from future Fan Artist Hugos, suggesting to the Worldcon community that they should focus on recognizing other worthy candidates. Wu has also published several works of short fiction and created the short animated film The Tragical Historie of Guidolon the Giant Space Chicken.

Wu has a website named Frank Wu. He is married to video game designer and author Brianna "Spacekat" Wu. He provided illustrations for an co-wrote the technical manual for the game Revolution 60.

Author - Wu, Brianna

Comments: Brianna Wu is an American artist, advocate, and video game designer. She started her first animation venture at the age of 19, although it was ultimately unsuccessful. She was briefly enrolled at the University of Mississippi, but withdrew to move to Washington, D.C. in order to engage in political advocacy for several years. Wu is currently the owner of an head of development at the video game company Giant Spacekat.

In 2014, Wu was one of a handful of high profile women in or adjacent to the video game industry who were targeted by GamerGate. After her home address was published on 8-Chan by pro-GamerGate supporters, she reported receiving multiple death and rape threats that ultimately drove her from her home for a time. By February of 2015, Wu was reportedly spending one day a week communicating with law enforcement and attending events in the U.S. only if she was accompanied by a security detail.

Wu is married to four-time Hugo winning artist and author Frank Wu. Wu has a website named Brianna Wu. She can also be found on Twitter.

Comments: Christian Ward is a writer and artist best known for his work on The Infinite Vacation and ODY-C. He has also contributed illustration of writing to projects for Marvel Comics, Dynamite Entertainment, The Guardian, Fence Records, and Forbidden Planet.

Author - Williams III, J.H.

Birth: I'm not sure when, but I'm guessing it happened in California.

Death: Still alive and drawing for DC.

Comments: James H. Williams, III is an American comic book artist and writer who has worked primarily on titles for DC Comics. He has provided art for comics such as Justice Riders, Son of Superman, Batman, Starman, Chase (which he also cowrote), and Promethea. He worked with W. Haden Blackman on a well-regarded run of the Batwoman comic, and both he and Blackman resigned from the comic over disagreements with the editorial direction DC Comics was taking with the character. More recently, Williams provided the artwork for Neil Gaiman's final installment in the Sandman series. In the course of his career, Williams has been recognized with two Eisner Awards, one Harvey Award, and one Hugo Award.

Artist - Walta, Gabriel Hernandez

Birth: I don't know when, but I am reasonably sure it took place in Spain.

Death: Still alive and illustrating comics for Marvel.

Comments: Gabriel Hernandez Walta is a Spanish comic book artist and painter. He is best known for his work on the Vision series, but he has also provided artwork for the Magneto and X-Men titles. Walta holds a Master of Fine Arts, and got his start in publishing doing work in children's illustration but eventually moved on to working in comics, starting with the graphic novel adaptation of Clive Barker's story The Thief of Always.

Comments: Jake Wyatt is an American writer and comic book artist best known for his web comic Necropolis. He has illustrated for Marvel, DC, and Image comics, most notably taking a turn with the Hugo-nominated Ms. Marvel as well as an issue of Edge of Spider-Verse.

Comments: Ursula Vernon is an American author and artist best known for her Hugo and Mythopoeic Award-winning webcomic Digger about an anthropomorphic wombat. She has also written several children's books, most notably the multi-volume Dragonbreath series. In 2015, Vernon received the Nebula Award for her short story Jackalope Wives.

Vernon sometimes writes under the pen name T. Kingfisher.

Vernon maintains a website named Ursula Vernon, has another site named Red Wombat Studios to support her artistic work, and also writes a blog titled Bark Like a Fish, Dammit! She can also be found on Deviant Art and Twitter.

Comments: Sana Takeda is a Japanese artist and writer who has done extensive work for Marvel. Takeda has provided artwork for numerous comic book series, including Ms. Marvel, X-23, and Venom. She contributed the exquisite artwork for the Image Comics series Monstress, written by Marjorie Liu. With Liu, Takeda won the Hugo Award in 2017 and 2018 for the series, and an additional Hugo Award in 2018 as Best Professional Artist.

Author - Tan, Shaun

Birth: 1974.

Death: Still alive and making speculative fiction illustrations.

Comments: Shaun Tan is a highly honored Australian illustrator most known for working in children's fiction and speculative fiction. He attended the University of Western Australia, graduating with a B.A. His early ambition was to be a speculative fiction author, but he eventually switched to illustration, and launched an incredibly successful career as an artist.

Tan has won numerous Ditmar Awards, three World Fantasy awards, two Hugo awards, the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award, an Academy Award, and several dozen other awards, all for his artwork. Tan has a website named Shaun Tan.

Birth: I don't know when, but it was probably in Canada.

Death: Still alive and making the best art in comics.

Comments: Fiona Staples is a Canadian artist best known for illustrating the Saga series. Widely regarded as one of the best comic artists working today, Staples has illustrated numerous comics including Done to Death, Button Man, and The Secret History of the Authority: Hawksmoor. She has won the Eisner Award twice, the Hugo Award once, and the Harvey award multiple times for her work.

Author - Sejic, Stjepan

Birth: November 27, 1981.

Death: Still alive and illustrating dozens of comics.

Comments: Stjepan Sejic is a Croatian artist and author known for drawing an extended run of the Witchblade series, as well as issues of Sunstone and Rat Queens. He has been illustrating comics professionally since at least 2006, and has proven to be extremely prolific, providing the interior art for numerous titles, mostly for Image Comics, and the cover art for many more, including covers for issues of both the X-Men and She-Hulk.

Sejic maintains a Tumblr called Shiniebezial. He can also be found on Facebook and Twitter.

Author - Stelfreeze, Brian

Birth: It happened. Maybe it was even akin to a super-hero origin story.

Death: Still alive and making art.

Comments: Brian Stelfreeze is an American comic book artist and author. He has worked extensively in the American comic book industry, including stints with both Marvel and DC. For Marvel, he provided the artwork for the Black Panther series recently written by Ta-Nehisi Coates, and previously provided artwork for titles such as Elektra, Wolverine, and Domino. On the DC side of the comic book universe, he's provided artwork for their flagship titles Batman and Superman as well as for other titles like Firestorm, Matador and The Authority. He's been credited as an inker, penciller, colorist, and painter. Stelfreeze was one of the original members of the freelance group Gaijin Studios and served as its art director before the collective closed up shop in 2010.

Stelfreeze can be found on Twitter. He has a blog named Work in Progress, but it appears to have last been updated in 2010. There is also a Facebook fan page dedicated to him.

Comments: Steve Stiles is an American writer and artist best known for his work in fanzines and fannish publications. Stiles began publishing his artwork in fanzines before he reached high school, using some of his fanzine work as part of his portfolio to gain admission to the High School of Music and Art in Manhattan, and still more to gain admission to the School of Visual Arts, also in Manhattan. Over the years since, Stiles' work has appeared in dozens of fanzines including Xero, Mimosa, and Trap Door, and has also graced the covers of many convention programs. Stiles was a finalist for the Hugo Award for Best Fan Artist thirteen times, and was in danger of becoming the Susan Lucci of the Hugo Awards before he finally won a Hugo in 2016.

Stiles has a website named stevestiles.com and a blog on Tumblr named Okay, Actually It's a Blog. He can also be found on Facebook and Google+.

Comments: Emma Rios is a Spanish artist who has illustrated several comic book titles including Marvel series Doctor Strange and the Amazing Spider-Man and the BOOM! series Hexed. Most recently, she has collaborated with Kelly Sue DeConnick on the Image title Pretty Deadly and with Hwei Lim on Mirror, also published by Image.

Comments: Alex Ross is an American comic book author and artist best known for co-writing and doing the artwork for the graphic novel Kingdom Come. Ross has provided the art for several DC and Marvel properties, most notably the short series Justice and an extended run of Astro City. Ross also painted the promotional poster for the 2002 Academy Awards, the cover art for the DVD of the movie Flash Gordon, and art related to the movies Unbreakable and Spider-Man.

Comments: Steve Pugh is a British comic book artist who has drawn for Marvel, DC, and Dark Horse, among other publishers. He is well-known for his work on the Animal Man series, as well as his runs with Hellblazer and the All-New Invaders. He has also drawn for a number of other series including Darkseid, Superman, Judge Dredd, and Third World War.

Comments: Takeshi Miyazawa is a Canadian artist who has provided art for numerous comic book series, mostly for Marvel. He attended Queen's University in Ontario, Canada, where he studied art. He has contributed art for a wide range of titles, including Spider-Man, Uncanny X-Men, Runaways, and Ms. Marvel. His art style is described as incorporating manga sensibilities.

Death: Still alive and illustrating for Marvel Comics.

Comments: Steve McNiven is a Canadian artist who first gained prominence providing the art for the graphic series Meridian. He has worked several titles for Marvel, including Ultimate Secret, New Avengers, and Civil War, the last working with Marc Millar. McNiven has worked on other projects with Millar, including the Old Man Logan story line of Wolverine, and the Nemesis min-series for Icon Comics.

McNiven has a Tumblr called Rough Work on which he shows rough drafts of his artwork, and a blog named What's Up With Steve McNiven, although the blog hasn't been updated since 2012.

Comments: Mark Laming is a British comic book artist who has worked for numerous publishing houses included Marvel, DC, Image, and Dark Horse. He has drawn runs for Flash GordonFantastic Four, Planet Hulk, and All-New Invaders, as well as several other titles.

Laming writes a blog titled Just Flinging Two. He can also be found on Twitter, Tumblr, and Deviant Art.
