Author - Alexander, Lloyd

Birth: January 30, 1924

Death: May 17, 2007

Comments: Lloyd Alexander was a prolific author of young adult fiction who is probably best known for writing the fantasy series The Chronicles of Prydain. Born and raised in Philadelphia, he studied briefly at Haverford College before joining the U.S. Army during World War II. During his service, Alexander spent some time in Wales, which almost certainly influenced his writing about Prydain, and was later posted to Germany. Following the war, Alexander attended the University of Paris before getting married and returning to Philadelphia.

Alexander wrote dozens of books, mostly in the young adult category. He received a Newbery Honor for The Black Cauldron and a Newbery Medal for The High King. He also received National Book Awards for The Marvelous Misadventures of Sebastian and Westmark. In 2003, he received a World Fantasy Award for lifetime achievement.
