Death: Still alive and writing thrillers.
Comment: Jeff Carlson is a science fiction writer best known for his Plague Year trilogy. He has also published a number of pieces of short fiction as well. Carlson left high school at age 15 after passing the California High School Proficiency Exam, an odd little quirk of the California education system that allows bright students to demonstrate that they have mastered all the concepts and information normally taught in high school and discontinue their schooling. In Carlson's case, he moved on to college and earned a B.A. in English.
Carlson has been nominated for the Philip K. Dick Award, and early in his career, Carlson was nominated for the Campbell Award for Best New Writer, but was disqualified because he had made some sales of short fiction before the year he was nominated in. Carlson has a website named Jeff Carlson: The Official Website.
