Death: Still alive and writing mysteries set in Africa.
Comments: Alexander McCall Smith is a Rhodesian-born law professor and author best known for his No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency series of mystery novels featuring Precious Ramotswe. McCall Smith was educated in Bulawayo at the Christian Brothers College before he moved to Scotland and attended the University of Edinburgh, where he eventually earned his Ph.D. in law. McCall Smith has taught law at Queen's University Belfast and the University of Edinburgh, and helped found the University of Botswana where he also taught law. In addition to his distinguished career in legal education, McCall Smith has published dozens of books ranging from academic texts, to children's literature, to mystery novels.
The author's surname is not "Smith", but is rather "McCall Smith". McCall Smith has a website named the World of Alexander McCall Smith, and a Facebook Fan Page.
