Author - Catherine Asaro

Me and Asaro at InConJunction 2011
Birth: 1955

Death: Still alive and being awesome.

Comments: Catherine Asaro is a science fiction author most famous for her extended series of books set in the Skolian Empire. However, her list of accomplishments is such that she seems like the protagonist of a Robert A. Heinlein novel, or possibly the female version of Buckaroo Banzai.

In addition to being a prolific Nebula Award winning science fiction author, she holds an A.M. in physics and a Ph.D. in chemical physics from Harvard University, and has been a visiting professor at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. She is an accomplished ballet and jazz dancer and has recorded a soundtrack for one of her novels as the front woman for the band Point Valid, making her a rock star. She served as President of the SFWA for two terms, and as if that wasn't enough, she was married to the late John Kendall Cannizzo, an astrophysicist who worked for NASA.

Her father is Frank Asaro, a prominent nuclear chemist who helped discover the iridium anomaly. I expect that when the secret history of the world is revealed, we will learn that Catherine defeated the Red Lectroids and World Crime League in her spare time. She has a website titled simply Catherine Asaro.
