Comments: Robert C. O'Brien was the pen name of Robert Leslie Conly. He started his undergraduate education at Williams College but left in his second year for unexplained reasons that he called his "breakdown". Eventually he returned to school, studying at Julliard before moving on to the University of Rochester where he earned a B.A. in English.
After a stint working for Newsweek, Conly spent most of his career writing and editing for National Geographic, but late in his life he wrote a handful of young adult books, most notably Silver Crown and Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH.
