Landis and Me at MidAmeriCon II |
Death: Still alive and working for NASA.
Comments: Geoffrey A. Landis is a working scientist and science fiction writer. He has only written one novel, but has published numerous pieces of short fiction and poetry. Landis has won two Hugo Awards, a Nebula Award, a Locus Award for his fiction and two Rysling Awards for his poetry. He is married to fellow science fiction author Mary A. Turzillo.
In his day job, Landis works for NASA focusing on planetary exploration, starship propulsion, and solar power. He has numerous patents for solar energy cells and photovoltaics, and was the first person to seriously investigate using solar power for Mars exploration craft and has studied using sail-equipped ships pushed by lasers or particle beams for interstellar exploration. Landis did his undergraduate work at M.I.T., and earned his Ph.D. from Brown University.
