Author - Barnes, Steven

Me and Barnes at Balticon 50
Birth: March 1, 1952.

Death: Still alive and kicking (literally).

Comments: Steven Barnes is a science fiction author most known to the role-playing game community as the coauthor, with Larry Niven, of the Dream Park trilogy, which imagined a future in which massive computer-assisted live action role-playing games had become both big business and a wildly popular spectator sport. Barnes is an avid practitioner of martial arts, and this shows up in the Dream Park books, as most of the contestants aren't what one would not think of as role-playing gamers, but rather are essentially highly skilled martial artists and athletes.

One small oddity is that although I have read several books that Steven Barnes has coauthored, I have never read any book for which he was the sole author.

Barnes is married to fellow science fiction author Tananarive Due.

My reviews of Steven Barnes' books:
Achilles' Choice (with Larry Niven)
The California Voodoo Game (with Larry Niven)
The Descent of Anansi (with Larry Niven)
The Legacy of Heorot (with Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle)

Other books by Steven Barnes I have read but not reviewed:
The Barsoom Project (with Larry Niven)
Dream Park (with Larry Niven)
