Zager & Evans was a folk pop duo made up of Denny Zager and Rick Evans. The duo achieved their only popular success in 1969 with the release of the science fiction tinged song
In the Year 2525, a song which reached number one on the U.S. and U.K. pop charts. The song was written in 1964, but not recorded until 1968, following a breakup and reunification of the group.
The duos was backed by Mark Dalton on bass and Paul Maher on drums, although Maher was later replaced by Dave Trupp. None of Zager & Evans' other songs even reached the top 100 in the U.S. or the U.K., although they did have a minor hit in Australia with a creepy song about a rapist titled
Mr. Turnkey.
