Davy Spillane is an Irish musician who specializes in playing the uilleann pipes and low whistle. He was a founding member of the band Moving Hearts, and recorded four albums with them, but left the band in 1985 to pursue a solo career. As a solo artist, Spillane recorded eight albums as well as numerous collaborations. He is probably best know for his role in the musical
Riverdance, in which he was a special guest soloist. Spillane also contributed to the soundtracks for movies such as
Rob Roy,
Gangs of New York, and
Wuthering Heights. He has been nominated for a Grammy Award twice, winning once.
