Born Margaret M'cingana, Margaret Singana was a South African singer known as "Lady Africa" to her countrymen. She got her start in the musical
Sopono, and went on to have a singing career that spanned more than two decades as both a pop singer performing both solo and with The Symbols. She also carved out a career as a musical theater performer notably appearing in musicals such as
Sikalo,
The Warrior, and most importantly
Ipi 'Ntombi in which she toured Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States. During the 1970s he recorded hits such as
Mama Tembu's Wedding,
I Never Loved a Man the Way I Loved You, and
Good Feelings.
Singana suffered ill health in the 1980s after a stroke in 1978, but recorded
We Are Growing, the theme song to the
Shaka Zulu miniseries in 1986, which reached number one in the Netherlands.
