Dan Fogelberg was an American musician best known for his series of soft rock hits in the early 1980s. Born in Peoria, Illinois, Fogelberg attended the University of Illinois and performed as part of a few cover bands before releasing his first album as a solo artist titled
Home Free. Through the rest of the 1970s and into the 1980s, Fogelberg released a series of successful albums including
Souvenirs,
Captured Angel,
Nether Lands,
Twin Sons of Different Mothers, and
The Innocent Age. He scored several hit singles as an solo artist such as
Part of the Plan,
Longer (which became a wedding standard),
Same Old Lang Syne (which, oddly, became a Christmas song), and
Leader of the Band.
Fogelberg was diagnosed with cancer in 2004. In 2007, after extensive treatment and a brief remission, the cancer killed him in 2007.
