Author - Cooper, Susan

Birth: May 23, 1935.

Death: Still alive and fighting against the darkness.

Comments: Susan Cooper is an American author known for her young adult fantasy books, especially her five book Dark Is Rising sequence. Along with J.R.R. Tolkien and Lloyd Alexander, Cooper's writing inspired me to become a fantasy fiction fan, and helped develop my love of Arthurian and Welsh mythology.

Originally born in England, Cooper earned a degree in English from Oxford University and then for a short time moved on to writing for the Sunday Times under Ian Fleming. She emigrated to the United States in the 1960s to get married, and published several young adult books, earning a Newbery Honor and a Newbery Medal as well as a Margaret Edwards Award in recognition of her work. Late in life Cooper married actor Hume Cronyn, widower of Jessica Tandy.

Cooper has a website named The Lost Land of Susan Cooper, and a Facebook fan page.
