Death: Still alive and writing short fiction.

Comments: Tom Purdom is an American science fiction and nonfiction writer. After attending Lafayette College for a few years, Purdom settled in Philadelphia and began a career as an author. His writing career has followed a moderately odd path. His first science fiction stories were published in the late 1950s, and he published a small number of reasonably successful science fiction novels by the beginning of the 1970s. For reasons that are now obscure, the market for his novels then dried up, and Purdom all but abandoned writing science fiction and pursued the commercial nonfiction market, staking out a successful career in that field. In the early 1990s Purdom returned to writing science fiction, with substantial success.

Purdom has lived most of his adult life in Philadelphia, and is a prominent participant in the Philadelphia area science fiction fan scene. He has a website dedicated to his work titled Tom Purdom.
