Larry Marshall is an American actor and singer best known for his role as Simon Zealotes in the 1973 film adaptation of the musical
Jesus Christ Superstar. Educated at Fordham University, Xavier University, and the New England Conservatory of Music, Marshall secured a role in a traveling production of
Porgy and Bess before he finished school. From there, Marshall launched a successful career on the stage that included a Tony Award for his portrayal of Sportin' Life in
Porgy and Bess and roles in a number of Broadway productions including
Hair,
The Full Monty,
The Color Purple, and
Xanadu.
In addition to his work on the stage, Marshall has also acted on screen, portraying Simon Zealotes in
Jesus Christ Superstar and Cab Calloway in
The Cotton Club.
