Idina Menzel is an enormously talented actress and singer who has done most of her work on Broadway, with a Tony win and a Tony nomination to her credit. Menzel got her start playing Maureen in the original cast of the musical
Rent, a role that earned her her first Tony nomination and which she returned to when the stage play was made into a feature film. Later she originated the role of Elphaba in the musical
Wicked, and for her work she was rewarded with a Tony win. More recently, Menzel provided the voice of Elsa in the Disney movie
Frozen, and became known for the song
Let It Go, which climbed into the top ten of the Billboard charts. Menzel also appeared in the movie
Enchanted, although oddly that movie didn't make use of her singing voice at all, a decision that I regard as a criminal waste of talent.
