Musical Artist - Kinney, Fern

Fern Kinney is an American singer most known for her two late-disco era singles Groove Me and Together We Are Beautiful. Kinney got her star in the music industry singing as part of the Poppies, but by the 1970s she had moved on to working as a session singer. In this capacity she sang backing vocals for artists such as King Floyd and Dorothy Moore, appearing, for example, on the 1976 single Misty Blue.

Following a brief hiatus, Kinney returned to the music business in 1979 as a solo artist, and produced her two hit songs: Discofied cover versions of the songs Groove Me and Together We Are Beautiful. Groove Me reached number six on the Billboard dance charts, and Together We Are Beautiful made it to the top position on the U.K. chart. Kinney tried to follow up her success, but the disco fad had peaked and she was never able to reach these same heights again and by 1983 her solo career was effectively over.
